What Surgeons and Physios Say About the STAK Tool

She only had 62° flexion, I spoke about the STAK and I was surprised that she had reached 108° flexion just a few weeks later

Mr Kareem Elsorafy

Orthopaedic Surgeon, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust

Stiffness in knee replacements is a top priority for management, ongoing innovation is crucial. The STAK really enhances our non-surgical approach to this challenging issue.

Professor Andrew Toms

Consultant Trauma & Ortho, National Clinical Lead for Revision Knee Surgery

It’s just a fantastic, low cost and really effective alternative treatment compared to the traditional treatments we had before. Since we have been using the STAK tool the MUA rates have fallen.

Mr Steven Godsiff

Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon, UHL NHS Trust

The STAK tool provides a measurable outcome improvement. The patients get and maintain extra functions over and above what they normally get.

Professor Robert Ashford

Consultant Musculoskeletal Tumour & Joint Reconstruction Surgeon

In the most challenging cases where traditional methods, such as extensive physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, continuous passive motion (CPM) machine hire, and manipulation under anaesthetic, fell short the STAK proved to be the solution.

Mr. Muhammad Tawfiq Korim

Consultant Knee Surgeon, UHL NHS Trust

Patients can perform high-intensity stretches while maintaining control over the intensity and we can clearly track their progress.

At just over 5 months post right total knee replacement, my flexion was stuck at around 80 degrees. Conventional physiotherapy wasn’t giving me the progress I had hoped for, and I was struggling to break down scar tissue. While searching online for options, I came across the STAK tool and decided to reach out for more information. Sara responded immediately, and after a helpful one-on-one chat, I felt confident it was worth trying. I booked the STAK for 8 weeks, using it alongside sessions with my local physiotherapist. From the very first session, I noticed that more movement was possible—slowly but surely. Each week brought progress, and by the end of the 8 weeks I had reached the end of the STAK board, achieving 105–110 degrees of flexion! Like anything in life, you get out what you put in. With consistent effort, perseverance, and pushing through some discomfort, I gained around 30 extra degrees of bend in my right knee. Now, I’m back at the gym, working hard to build on these results. I cannot recommend the STAK tool and Sara’s team highly enough. If you’re struggling with mobility after knee surgery, give it a try—you won’t be disappointed!

Outstanding results 1st TRKR PO 6 months and 2nd PO 4 weeks 6 months after my first TKR my bend was only at 70 degrees when I came across the Stak Tool and the wonderful Sara. Within a few weeks I could walk up the stairs again and after 8 weeks my bend was at 96 degrees, normal activities back on the agenda! After my 2nd TLKR I began using the Stak tool at 4 weeks PO, by 8 weeks I was off the crutches and have a bend of 110 degrees. I can't recomend this product enough, it will give you your life back!

As a private physio, I opted to use the STAK tool with a client of mine who had severe stiffness in both his knees following a nasty accident which resulted in multiple fractures in both his legs and surgeries to fix them. The communication and service has been excellent from start to end of treatment, and the improvement in his range (almost 40 degrees more flexion) has meant my client has avoided an MUA and has noticed a huge improvement in his mobility and function in just a few weeks. He is really happy, and so am I. The tool has been really effective and I'm certain his range has improved further and faster than it would have done with passive stretches and a home exercise programme. I'll absolutely be using the tool again for appropriate future clients - although a bit pricey, it has been well worth it for the improvement in quality of life, and the cost has been somewhat offset by the need for fewer physio sessions as the client has been able to progress independently with the tool.

Linda Healey – Review of STAK Knee Stretcher After surviving metastatic breast cancer in 2010 and undergoing a hip replacement, my left knee began to deteriorate, eventually leading to a total knee replacement in December 2020. Unfortunately, due to COVID, I had no in-person physio or prehab, and over time, my knee became increasingly stiff and painful. Despite physio, my range of motion dropped to 90 degrees and no one could explain why. Finally, in 2025, a private physio diagnosed me with arthrofibrosis. I found the STAK device online and hired it for 8 weeks—and it’s been a game changer. After just one session, my knee felt freer and walking became easier. By week seven, I reached 102 degrees of bend - my best result in over 4 years. I'm now able to walk up and down stairs properly again, something I haven't done since before my hip replacement in 2010. STAK has given me hope and real progress where other treatments failed. The sessions are intense, but with the right support and pain relief, they’re manageable and truly effective. I finally feel like I’m getting my life back.

Began experiencing bad pain in knees when running, eventually became so bad that I couldn’t sit down without my knees hurting. Thanks to Sara’s physio treatment, I was able to get back to running without pain within two months, and was able to successfully continue my training for joining the military. Sara was also able to offer support in recovery during this preparation. I would definitely recommend Sara for anyone having similar issues or simply wanting to keep on top of their condition when training. Thanks Sara!

I had a knee revision in September this year after 8 years of struggle after a knee replacement that didn’t work for me. Using STAK tool for 8 weeks I gained 45% bend !!! I was aware of the STAK system as my physiotherapist at my hospital had told me about it. I had a previous build up of scar tissue and she thought that using the STAK would Dr Sara Aspinallt this occurring after my revisioDr Sara Aspinallntacted Dr Sara Aspinall and arranged to start the treatment when my clips had been removed. It was quite an intensive exercise regime using the STAK 3x daily along with other exercises that would help me to bend and straighten the leg. I had meetings via Teams with Sara weekly and she supported me during the regime , encouraging me to move down the ladder even if it was painful. One of the most important things when using the STAK was to ensure I took regular analgesia because I was putting the knee into stress mode by ensuring that the knee was being pushed / held into position. After my 30 minutes on the STAK tool I then used ice packs to calm the pain sensation. Originally I used a towel between my skin and the ice pack but with encouragement from Sara I started putting in directly on to the knee joint, after the initial shock I found it was generally more effective on relieving the pain. I used the STAK for 8 weeks and I know it was worth all the effort. I am continuing with daily exercises and plan to keep these going. I am no longer in pain,I can sleep at night and I can walk further than I have done in years. I would recommend this tool to others who have problems with scar tissue.

I had a tkr in July and despite doing lots of recommended exercise I am still suffering a lot of pain at night and unable to bend more than 90° following consultation with my surgeon. I was recommended stack and have only been using it for two days and already notice such a difference. I had the online consultation for an hour and a half with Sarah, which was really useful and in one session achieved an 11% increase in the Knee band which is amazing. I will write another review at the end of the month but this has given me so much more hope for a pain-free and normal future.

A few months after my total knee replacement I felt I had reached an impasse and was making no improvement. I found the STAK online and used it regularly and had two online consultations and exercise sessions with Sara. These helped more than the extensive physio I'd had previously and Sara suggested exercises that would help the hip tightness created by my poor walking style. Sara seemed more knowledgeable about knees than other physios and was caring and very good at explaining what was needed. On the road to recovery now thanks to STAK and Sara.

Hi everyone I’m a Stak user and now an avid ambassador I want to share my experiences with you all and describe my situation before finding the lovely Sara and the Stak tool At 6 months PO TRKR my bend was only at 70 degrees, still using 1 crutch and had to pull myself up the stairs and step down one at a time. I started to search online for something to help me, conventional physiotherapy and hydrotherapy wasn’t making any difference to break down my scar tissue. I then found the Stak tool and immediately reached out for more information. Within days I had hired the tool and booked 4 weeks online physio sessions. After the first week I already had more movement, within 2 weeks I’d ditched the crutch and after 4 weeks could walk up the stairs normally, all be it slowly. I signed up for another 4 weeks and managed to get my bend to 96 degrees, amazing after all this time! It does take dedication, focus and commitment to at least 2 sessions a day, but it’s so worth it, this will change your lifestyle the exact reason you chose to have your knee replacement in the beginning 9 months later I had my TLKR and was keen to get started with Stak Tool as soon as possible. Sara advised to wait until 4 weeks PO which I did and now after only 4 weeks I am off the crutches, walking normally up and down the stairs. The knee is still a bit stiff but I do a few bends in the morning and throughout the day in addition to walking up and down the stairs which loosens everything up I can’t recommend Sara and the Stak Tool enough. If you have any questions or want info from a patients perspective please reach out, always happy to oblige

5 weeks after my TKR I developed severe inflammation with very limited knee bend. Sara diagnosed arthrofibrosis and started me on a program with the Stak stretcher. It was a very intensive programme but with Sara’s fantastic support and encouragement, it worked and I was able to achieve a full range of movement in my knee. Sara is very professional, knowledgable and was so committed to helping me achieve such a successful outcome. Brenda

Having had a total knee replacement 18 months ago- and having had a great deal of physio- I was still really struggling to achieve anything like the degree of bend necessary to have a normal, active life- I.e swimming, horse riding, cycling. Prior to getting severe arthritis, I was a very active person. However following my knee replacement, and in spite of spending a great deal of time completing the recommended exercises, I became depressed when 18 months down the line I fell off my bike, unable to bend the knee sufficiently. Then I came across an article in the Guardian newspaper about the STAK knee stretcher when I was considering asking my GP to refer me for manipulation under anaesthetic. I read on further and looked at all the research… Today, under Sara’s patient guidance and expertise, I made more progress in an hour and a half than I had done in many months of conventional physio. If you are looking to get your life back, look no further than this miraculous device. Thanks Sara. So so much.

This piece of equipement helped me enormously following knee replacement. Arthrofibrosis set in very quickly despite the exercising and I really struggled to get anywhere near a 90 degree bend. It was very demoralising. The MUA was the next step but my surgeon recommended the STAK. I am so glad he did. It was a gradual process but day by day the stretching helped to loosen the internal scarring and two months later I was achieving 110 degrees of bend. More importanly I did not need the MUA and I am now a comfortable 120 degree bend. I am due to have the other knee replaced shortly and this time I will be ordering the STAK straight away to run alongside the exercises
